What Have
You Been Putting Up With?
A dirty
car, a loose handle, a missing wheel on your office chair,
the unfinished shelving, unfiled papers, a book you’ve been
wanting to read, a class you haven’t yet taken, the vacation
that keeps getting postponed, etc., etc., etc.
All of
these little things that you have learned to live with are
zapping your energy – whether you know it or not.
Everything you’ve thought about, planned, wanted to handle,
but haven’t, are little decisions you haven’t really
made. Even a conscious decision not to do it will free up
energy.
It’s easy
to see when you come from the outside. Have you ever gone
to a friend’s house and wondered why they don’t fix that
____________ that’s been broken for two years? Maybe
they’ve been complaining about the same issue at work since
you’ve known them but they haven’t done anything to improve
the situation. You see it! It’s so obvious. Why don’t
they just handle it?
It’s
actually quite easy to get accustomed to the things you
don’t like. Maybe you have learned to completely ignore it,
or you complain but don’t actually do anything, or
you keep telling yourself you’ll get to it. It’s called
complacency and by the very nature of it, we become
actionless.
Decision
= Action
What
have you been putting up with? If you’re not quite
ready to tackle the big things, start with the small ones.
Wake up; look around; make a couple of little decisions;
take some new actions; shake things up a bit. Exercise
those decision muscles. I promise it will feel good!
