Someday or
Now?
Today I was
musing about the idea of someday versus now. How many times
do people relieve the pressure of taking action now by
promising themselves that they will do "the thing" next
week, next month, next year? They'll do it someday. Rather
than confront their own fears, perceived limits, and
barriers, many intelligent people preserve the delicate
balance of comfort they've achieved by promising themselves
that they will do "it" someday. Unfortunately, that
particular someday frequently never comes.
Granted, maybe this moment isn't the right time - I get
that. If it truly isn't now, then decide when and create an
action plan for that time. Turn someday into a
concrete time when you will act rather than letting it float
in out there in someday land. Even if the "right" time is in
the future that doesn't preclude you from taking action.
It's probable that there are things you can do NOW
to insure that you are better prepared for that scheduled
time in the future when you will do "it".
But what would happen if you stripped away all of your
brillant internal retoric and got real with yourself? Is it
really that now is not the time or is that a logical
rationalization to cover the fact that to take action
now would require you to step up in some way that you
prefer to avoid? Stop it! Give yourself a break. It could be
that the very act of facing and breaking through your own
fears, perceived limits, and barriers would create as much
or more value than the actual accomplishment of the goal or
desire itself.
Be real with yourself. Is it time? Remember, your past
"someday" is NOW!
